McCartney’s Commitment Strengthens Seawolves Core
(Saint John, NB) The University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves men’s basketball program is excited to announce the commitment of Jackson McCartney, a dynamic and versatile wing from Grafton, New Brunswick who brings athleticism, high-level experience, and proven big-game production to the Seawolves roster. A standout at Woodstock High School and a key contributor within the Basketball New Brunswick provincial system, McCartney arrives in Saint John prepared to make an immediate impact at the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association level.
The Seawolves staff has followed McCartney’s development closely through multiple provincial team appearances, including his time representing Team New Brunswick at the Canada Games. He further cemented his reputation at the NBIAA Final 12 AA championships, earning Finalist Game Most Valuable Player honours after delivering a dominant double-double performance on one of the province’s biggest stages. His ability to perform under pressure and contribute across all areas of the game reflects both maturity and competitive drive.
“My biggest impression of Jackson is his overall versatility,” said Seawolves head coach Paul Vaughan. “In high school, he really did it all—acting as the primary ballhandler and leading rebounder while facilitating the entire offense. After watching him with Team New Brunswick, it’s clear his athleticism and offensive skill set will translate effectively to the university level. As an athletic wing, he brings a dynamic offensive presence. He attacks the rim aggressively, has the range to keep defenses honest, and sees the floor extremely well. He will be a great fit for our system.”
McCartney’s résumé includes Team New Brunswick experience at the U15 Nationals, participation on multiple provincial teams, 2025 NBIAA All-Star recognition, and a 95 percent academic average. At the national tournament in Sherbrooke, he played a key role in New Brunswick’s pool-play success, leading the team in scoring in a victory over Saskatchewan and continuing to produce offensively throughout the event. His combination of scoring, rebounding, and playmaking consistently makes him a matchup challenge on the wing.
Off the court, McCartney is equally committed to the game. He volunteers at youth camps, assists with coaching and refereeing younger age groups, and serves as a primary helper with Woodstock High School’s Unified Basketball program. His leadership and willingness to give back speak to the character he will bring into the Seawolves locker room.
“Basketball means everything to me,” McCartney said. “It’s the one thing I’ve always been sure of. I want to play at the highest level I can reach and keep pushing myself every day. After being around the team and seeing how Coach Vaughan leads, I knew this was where I wanted to be. I’m ready to compete and help the program win.”
McCartney will enroll in the Bachelor of Health program, with aspirations to become an orthodontist or physician, continuing his pursuit of excellence both academically and athletically. With his size, athleticism, versatility, and relentless approach to improvement, Jackson McCartney adds energy, depth, and long-term potential to the Seawolves lineup.
Welcome to the Seawolves family, Jackson.
