Herakovic Adds to Seawolves Midfield
The UNB Saint John Seawolves Men’s Soccer team is pleased to announce the commitment of Milan Herakovic for the upcoming season.
Originally from Kitchener, Herakovic is a graduate of Rockway Mennonite Collegiate and joins the Seawolves with an impressive background of high-level competition, athletic versatility, leadership, and academic success. A dedicated multi-sport athlete, Herakovic has competed at the academy level since the Under-9 age group and has developed into a dynamic offensive player capable of making an impact on matches as both a striker and an attacking midfielder.
Throughout his youth career with Kitchener TFC Academy, Herakovic helped lead his teams to consistent success, including an Ontario Cup Final appearance in 2022, semifinal appearances in 2024, and quarter-final finishes in both 2023 and 2025. The club also captured League Cup championships from 2022 through 2024. Over recent seasons, he has totaled more than 41 goals and 30 assists, showcasing both his finishing ability and creativity in the attacking third. He currently competes with Waterloo United in League1 Ontario Under-20 Reserves.
The Seawolves coaching staff first identified Herakovic at the FTF Showcase and quickly recognized the qualities that make him such an effective attacking player.
“He comes across as a decisive, forward-thinking attacking midfielder who thrives on playing between the lines,” said the coaching staff. “His instinct is always to receive in tight pockets, turn quickly, and break defensive structures with either sharp carries or progressive passes. What stands out is his directness. His first thought is vertical: Can I advance the attack? Can I eliminate defenders? That mentality makes him a constant threat and a catalyst for transitions.”
The coaching staff also believes Herakovic’s soccer intelligence, technical quality, and competitive mentality will make an immediate impact within the program.
“He will elevate the program with his high soccer IQ and refined technical skill set,” the staff added. “His ability to read the game, make smart decisions under pressure, and execute with precision will immediately strengthen the squad.”
Away from soccer, Herakovic has also excelled in basketball. Standing at 6-foot-1, he served as the starting point guard and captain of the senior basketball team at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate, earning Rookie of the Year and Leadership Award honours while helping guide the program through its strongest season in more than a decade.
Academically, Herakovic has maintained a 3.6 grade point average while balancing the demands of academy-level athletics, training, and travel. He has particularly excelled in mathematics and advanced functions, demonstrating the same discipline and commitment in the classroom that he brings to competition.
For Herakovic, soccer represents far more than competition alone. He credits the sport for teaching him discipline, resilience, commitment, and the ability to handle adversity while building strong relationships with teammates and coaches throughout his career.
“The philosophy of Coach Ward aligns with what I am hoping to get from my experience as a student-athlete at UNBSJ,” said Herakovic. “Development on the field and life experience off it. I’m excited by the thought of playing soccer outside of Ontario, while having an opportunity to volunteer and help develop grassroots athletes during my studies.”
Outside of athletics, Herakovic enjoys working out, studying, travelling, gaming with friends, and spending time with family and friends. He has also remained active in the community through volunteer coaching opportunities at soccer camps and trials, assisting with warm-ups, drills, and scrimmages for younger athletes. Most recently, he worked as a camp counsellor at the Waterloo Wildhawks basketball camp, where he was voted “Favourite Camp Counsellor” by participants.
At UNB Saint John, Herakovic plans to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration with aspirations of eventually running his own business. On the field, his goals include successfully transitioning to the university level, contributing to team success, and competing for an Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association championship.
The Seawolves are excited to welcome Milan to Saint John and look forward to the impact he will bring to the program both on and off the field in the years ahead.
