Fredericton standout Maya Lanteigne commits to UNB Saint John Seawolves
(Saint John, NB) - The UNB Saint John Seawolves women’s volleyball program is pleased to announce the commitment of Maya Lanteigne, a dynamic and high-energy athlete whose championship résumé, positional versatility, and big-game experience make her one of the most exciting additions to the Seawolves roster ahead of the upcoming Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association season. A Fredericton, New Brunswick, native and graduate of Leo Hayes High School, Lanteigne arrives in Saint John as a proven competitor with a long track record of success at the provincial and national levels.
Lanteigne developed through the Reds Volleyball Club system, where she has been a prominent presence since 2011. Her club career is highlighted by multiple provincial championships across age groups, podium finishes at elite tournaments in the United States, and consistent leadership roles within high-performance environments. Among her many accomplishments are provincial titles at the 12U, 15U, 16U, 17U, and 18U levels, gold medals at major events such as the Tampa Grand Slam and Elite of the East, and three Most Valuable Player awards. In 2024, she was named Provincial MVP, cementing her reputation as one of the top athletes in New Brunswick.
Her success extends beyond indoor volleyball. Lanteigne has also excelled in beach volleyball, earning national medals, being named Volleyball New Brunswick Beach Athlete of the Year, and representing the province on high performance teams through her years. On the provincial and national stage, she competed with Team New Brunswick at the Canada Cup and represented the province at the 2025 Canada Games, gaining valuable experience against the country’s top talent. Those opportunities, including working with Seawolves assistant coach Suzanne Landers at the Canada Games, further showcased her adaptability and competitive edge.
“Maya is a high-energy player with a very well-rounded offensive and defensive profile,” said Stephanie Guimond. “She projects as a difference-maker at the ACAA level right away. We expect her to step into a prominent role early, with the ability to contribute at left side, libero, and as a serving and defensive specialist. She brings big-game experience and an intensity that will help offset the departure of our graduating athletes.”
At the high school level, Lanteigne was a consistent leader for Leo Hayes, earning provincial medals, Unsung Hero honors, Rookie of the Year recognition, and a varsity MVP award in her graduating season. She balanced her athletic success with strong academics, graduating ranked 12th in her class, demonstrating the discipline and commitment required to excel in both sport and the classroom.
For Lanteigne, volleyball is deeply personal. Growing up in a family where the sport was central, volleyball became a constant presence in her life from an early age. She credits the game with providing a sense of community, lifelong friendships, and valuable lessons in resilience, perspective, and personal growth. That connection to the sport has also fueled her passion for giving back. She volunteered for several years with the Reds Grassroots program, helping coach and mentor young athletes while emphasizing enjoyment, teamwork, and personal development over results.
Choosing UNB Saint John was a natural decision rooted in family, tradition, and opportunity. With both parents as UNB graduates and her sisters currently attending the university, continuing that legacy while competing at the university level made UNB Saint John the ideal fit. She will study business beginning in the fall of 2026, with long-term aspirations of working in the film industry as a director, blending her creative interests with a strong foundation in business.
Entering her first university season, Lanteigne is focused on embracing new environments, building relationships, and continuing to grow as both an athlete and a person. With her versatility, championship mindset, and infectious energy, she is poised to make an immediate impact on the Seawolves program.
Welcome to the Seawolves family, Maya.
